Marking International Day of People with a Disability in 2020

Today marks the International Day of People with a Disability, a day to increase awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability. This has been a challenging year for everyone, but especially for people with a disability and their care providers. With extended lock downs, increased isolation and regularly changing restrictions, it has been difficult at times for people to receive and give the care they require.

With more than 420, 000 people now accessing the National Disability Insurance Scheme in 2020, and more than 193,000 people for the first time, NDIS providers have a lot of care to give. At PROVIDERplus, we have heard first-hand the difficulties that NDIS providers have faced.

Despite the challenges of 2020, this day gives us the opportunity to recognise the millions of Australians living with a disability and hear their often remarkable stories. There are numerous events being held across the country to mark the day, click here to find out what is happening near you.

If you’re unable to get out, the ABC has special programming across their TV, Radio and Online and iView network to share the stories of people with a disability.
